She also tends to dress in a very preppy style: clean lines and modest cuts.

(Her spirit companion's PB is Spinel Sun from Card Captor Sakura.)

Life Details
Background: Reina was born the youngest of three children to Pilar and Vicente Castillo. Her mother was of a painfully minor magical house, hardly even worth talking about save for greeting her ancestors once they were added to the house shrine. As far as Reina was concerned, it was her father's side of the family that was infinitely more important. After all, he was the more powerful of the two, and, as a result, Reina and her two older brothers gained their magical talents from his side of the family.

Reina's early life was mostly filled with learning how to work with the world around her, her education confined mostly to private family tutors. The more mundane lessons didn't particularly interest her. She had always been more fascinated by the magical things, by the spirits around them, even their ancestral ones. It didn't help, either, that her older brothers already knew so much more than she did and had a tendency to show off what magic they were best at along with their spirit companions, and she became a little jealous. She determined she had to be better than them at something, anything. She didn't particularly care what it was, but she needed to prove to her brothers that she was every bit as capable as they were, if not more so.

She got her opportunity shortly after she formed a bond with a spirit that took the form of a small black cat with butterfly wings by the name of Benito. Her father would often test his children with the various magical disciplines to see which they had an affinity for. The day her father decided to test her affinity for Invoking, she not only managed to get Benito to grow to about the size of a large elephant. Although she handled the realization that she could be an Invoker with dignity at the time, she waited until she got back to her room before celebrating as Invoking was a magical discipline that her two brothers did not excel at whatsoever.

Eventually, the day came when Reina had to leave home and everything she loved for school in America, an academy called Paracelsus. Her brothers had attended the same school, and she knows she has nothing to worry about, but she's still ridiculously nervous about it. A brand new environment means being without the pull of the spirits she's come to know and love. At least she still has Benito.

House Politics: Growing up around every generation of House Castillo imaginable, Reina grew up believing the things they told her without question. She genuinely believes in the things they do, and that everything her House has done was perfectly justified (including what House Patisse and House Castillo did to House Almagoras). She supposes that in a school setting, she might be better off turning down the House loyalty a little bit, but she loves her House and everyone in it, and she refuses to hear them talked about poorly. Family is everything to her, so why shouldn't she defend it?

Personality: One might think that being the only girl in a family of mostly boys that Reina might be a bit on the quieter side. That's not the case at all. In fact, she's just as loud as they are, if not more so. She had to stand her ground against her older siblings more often than not, and, while she rarely had to fight to be heard, she's not afraid to speak up, either.

Reina is the sort of person that believes in truth even if it's inconvenient. If you ask her a question, she'll tell you what she honestly believes whether you want to hear it or not. In her mind, not only does sugarcoating things shelter people, but it's also pretty close to lying. Lying, at least in her own mind, is one of the worst things anyone could ever possibly do, and to do one of those terrible things ultimately leads to disappointing someone, and she really has no desire whatsoever to disappoint anybody.

As a result, she's incredibly responsible: taking her lessons seriously and tending to put the rules above everything else. This is something she's incredibly proud of. However, she isn't entirely sure how to react if people break the rules. This is especially true when it comes to spirits; you address one the wrong way and bad things happen. People, on the other hand, are another beast entirely. While she's baffled by the fact that not all of them function on a predictable ruleset, she finds them ridiculously fascinating, and she'll spend hours watching people and trying to analyze how they work (to limited result).

Underneath all of this is a girl who desperately wants to be liked by people, but isn't willing to compromise who she is to do it. She does care about the people around her, but she has a hard time figuring out how to express it. If you attempt to befriend her, though, you have a friend for life. She's ridiculously loyal to her friends and family, and she'd do anything for them, even to the point of dropping everything to be there for them. It may take a while for someone to get to that point, as she doesn't trust anyone easily, but it's worth it in the end.

Well, she thinks so, anyway.

Flaws: Reina is very much a perfectionist. Rules need to be followed to the letter, spells have to be performed a certain way, and if she doesn't do it that specific way, she worries about disappointing someone, especially her family. Her House is everything to her, and disappointing them in any way would kill her.

When one grows up surrounded by spirits and your own ancestors (all your ancestors), it's very difficult to keep a secret from everyone. Everyone in Reina's life was always in everyone else's business and you couldn't keep a secret from anyone. As a result, Reina has a tendency to stick her nose where it probably doesn't belong, feeling the need to try to get involved in everything around her because she doesn't want to be left out.

She has almost a fanatic sort of loyalty to her House and refuses to believe anything bad anyone says about them, even if it might be true. She's deathly loyal to her House, even the branches she doesn't know particularly well, and she'd do anything for them, even to the point of compromising her own integrity if they asked her to.

Magic and Skill Details
Magic and Skills: In terms of the mundane, the skill Reina focuses on above anything else is dance. Reina's rather fond of it, and in addition to learning the more traditional dances from her ancestors, she's an adept ballerina. Dancing itself has done wonders for her posture and how she carries herself, and she even allows it to creep into other aspects of her life, utilizing a twirl or a leap to avoid projectiles in various magical-related exams. She also has an incredible sense of balance as a result and often challenges some of the others who may mock her for her preference to see if they're capable of standing perfectly balanced en pointe. (The majority of them cannot.)

To perform any of her magic, however, Reina relies on her foremost spirit companion, a black cat with butterfly wings by the name of Benito. She treats him more like a friend than a tool and they've worked out an arrangement where he'll do most anything she asks him providing she helps him remain manifested in her world. (His world doesn't have television, after all, and he finds it fascinating.)

Reina is a rather talented Invoker like many of her House, capable of calling upon a variety of spirits to do her bidding. Unlike some Invokers, however, she doesn't command the spirits she calls upon to do anything as she finds that incredibly rude. Instead, she usually asks them nicely to do things she's incapable of doing on her own, and is sure to give them the option to say no. This has earned her an amount of respect amongst the spirits she calls upon, and, as a result, she hardly finds the need to force her own authority over them.

Although she's capable of summoning other spirits if she so chooses (primarily little creatures like birds for messengers and the like), she uses her Invoking abilities to enhance what Benito already has, capable of making him grow impossibly large if she chooses. However, he finds it uncomfortable and she rarely helps him to grow larger than an average-sized panther unless the situation demands otherwise. She does, however, sometimes conjure armor for him for additional protection. As a result, when it comes to dueling and whatnot, he tends to handle most of the fighting.

Unfortunately, however, as Benito handles most of the combat for her, she's well aware that that leaves her as a target. She's since learned to Channel, primarily focused on wind to blow potential projectiles out of the way. More mundanely, she uses a small cool breeze to cool off hot food or drink. She'd also like to learn to work with water, eventually combining the two to form ice, but, for now, she's happy with her breezes.
